Homeschool Curriculum – Video

Hi Moms! This is the video where I talk about what curriculum we’ve chosen for the year and why. I have a teaching credential and I taught elementary school for four years before I started having kids of my own. Now they are my favorite students. I have combined my oldest two into second grade and I am doing preschool/kindergarten with child #3 this year. I also have a two-year-old and another one on the way – due in two months! This video specifically focuses on our curriculum. If you’d like to see how a typical day looks for us, with tips on how to juggle homeschooling and toddlers, check out my blog post “Homeschooling with Five Little Boys”.

If you are an ultra structured person who likes a box-set of curriculum that includes every subject, I might make you a little nervous. If you are super laid-back and don’t like structure of any kind, I might bother you a little bit. I’m right in the middle. I LOVE structure – but I like it because it gives me flexibility. The way we chose our curriculum is a perfect example of that. Take a look at how I play by the rules – and how I sometimes chuck them out the window. That’s the beauty of homeschooling.

If you have any questions for me, please leave them in the comments!

  1. I had the same problem of it showing up as now being private. I have in my head that the grammar book you use is one I read another review on last night and would love to watch this again. If it gets fixed please let me know!

  2. On amazon it looks likes the spell write read book is supposed to be paired with “the wise guide for spelling”??? Do you need/use that? I had a great motivational homeschool talk with friends this morning and was reminded of your great tips!!

  3. Hi Amy! Yes, I would say if you're going to do SWR you definitely need the Wise Guide. The SWR book is more the philosophy or the curriculum and the Wise Guide has actual lists and lessons. I wound up not being as thrilled with SWR as I thought I would be, but I know many families who absolutely love it. I think my favorite language arts curriculum is Sing, Spell, Read, Write. 🙂
